That’s the name of the road I’ll be living on. I get to live in this beaut:
It almost sounds too good to be true. I get a single with a shared kitchen for the floor; internet and laundry included in the rent (which is thankfully only 425EU). Is anyone jealous of me? You should be! I also live about a five minute walk from Leiden’s old town center. This is the first thing that’s happened since I decided to go abroad that has actually made me excited to go. I’m also incredibly excited about dutch food. Until now the phrase “dutch food” has conjured up images of croquettes, that terrible, fried, breaded, liquid meat on a stick. I’m starting to realize that no one’s going to actually make me eat that there, but there is a lot of other food I’ll be happy to put in my stomach. Breakfast is going to be wonderful in a way breakfasts have never been before: museli, plain yoghurt, sour little berries, koek… I’ve also realized that my classes might end as soon as April 25. I’m simultaneously excited that I might have 3 months of class instead of 5, and nervous that 3 months won’t be long enough to do everything I want to do. I heard an interview with a dutch truck driver yesterday. When asked if he thought Holland was a good place to live, he said no: “te voel, te duur, en te ‘ik’” (Too full, too expensive, and too ‘me, me, me’”). We’ll see. I’m counting down the days. 2 weeks until my parents move; still 3 weeks until I do.
