Trading Maine for a city without public transportation

December 21, 2005

My nose is kind of dripping out the left side. I guess I’m glad this cold waited until the day after finals (good job there, body) but it does add to the overall sense of comical farce-ness (I can’t be bothered to look up that word) of my life today. I left Bowdoin until September which is a good thing in that I’m entirely sick of papers and the same three buildings, but leaving Ted behind was pretty awful. Like, of the yin and yang of my life, that was almost entirely whichever side is bad. Oh, and someone stole my only pair of heels today, too. Who does that? I want them back. In fact, excuse me for a minute while I email my dorm. I listened to the arcade fire and the anomoanon in the car. It was wonderful. I’m excited to see the van gogh drawings at the met and the egon schiele exhibit somewhere else. This transit strike’s going to be great exercise. I could use a good night’s sleep and a good book. I might buy a trashy fantasy novel and read it cover to cover tomorrow. It turns out I’m arriving four days before I originally planned to. Now Oma can pick me up from the airport. Things are reversed: I’m going to school in Holland to come back to the States for the summer? It’s usually the other way around. Web 2.0 is totally chilling out to the right of this neato box. It’s cute. I’m into it. I’m going to go tend to my lopsided congestion.

Leiden

That is where I’m going in two months. I don’t think my dorm will be quite as quaint or red-roofed. I looked at some pictures of dorm rooms today: most of them were gorgeous and 800EU/month. The affordable ones looked like 8 story atrocities where I will have to share a kitchen with 15 other people. I’m in the middle of finals and goodbyes here at Bowdoin. Usually, being gone isn’t as bad as leaving itself. Things to look forward to: bikes, visits, phone calls to old friends, poffertjes (sp?), correspondence with India, and um, learning how to cook dinner without an oven? Here are my two favorite videos on the internet
